Race: "Sleeping" nephilim at time of death. Shadowfolk during the first book, lich at the end. Needless to say, this kid needs counseling.

Occupation: Originally a tracker for Belial; by the end of the first book, he simply wanders, learning more about this strange new world.

General Description: 125 centimeters tall (4'2"), weight unknown. Middle-eastern/Asianic. grey eyes, long black hair with a slight curl, in a state of perpetual dampness. As a shadow child, totally achromatic; as a lich, very pale.

Clothes: Always black or dark grey. Always has a black collar/choker made of black hair.

Telltale Marks: Other than the creepy shadows following him around, no piercings, no tattoos.

Abilities: At all times, he can sink into and travel through shadows at will. As a lich he starts learning he can manipulate the element of his death -- in this case, water.

Quirk: Develops kleptomania - steals wallets especially, although at first only for the family photos. Eventually he realises the slips with the numbers have a use.

Personality: Frightens easily, but makes fast friends; very clingy. Mute. Longs to find his father, but ends up usually running away whenever he gets close since he has seen what his father can do first hand.

Idea Pool: I'd never say no to speculative art of Rani, especially of him with Cade. Cute stuff is fine too: Rani's one of the few characters who can do cute rather well, even in a spooky sort of way. He wouldn't shy away from Tyr, and throughout the first book, he's treated as though he were a pet by Belial.

SPOILER ALERT! At the end of the first book, Rani has in his possession/is possessed by a relic consisting of his father's severed wing. This gives him solid, tangible form, but Rani still lacks a heartbeat and is cold to the touch. By the end of the third book, he's still running amok, but sticking around Sara.
